John Lyon has been the orchestra’s conductor since 2020.

John is in high demand across the North of England as a conductor and music educator.

For Sheffield’s Music Service he specialises in ensemble direction and upper strings teaching, as well as arrangement and orchestration.

John studied for undergraduate and postgraduate degees in musicology at the University of Leeds. From learning to conduct as a student, he now regularly works with a variety of ensembles across the country, and has musically directed operas for Music in the Round, Northern Opera Group and The Royal Ballet and Opera House.
